When Islamic State’s last stronghold in the Syrian town of Raqqa was liberated on October 17 last year, the world breathed a sigh of relief that the terrorist organisation had been brought to its knees.
“Once purported as fierce, now pathetic and a lost cause,” US special presidential envoy for coalition forces Brett McGurk tweeted at the time.
But as the Melbourne attack last week showed Islamic State, also known as ISIS and IS, is far from defeated.
The enduring appeal of IS is now something authorities are coming to terms with.
While IS has lost all the territory it held in Iraq and remains in control of only 1 per cent of the territory it once held in Syria, the organisation has “rallied” and moved underground.
COMMENT:-
Since this isn't from a reputable American source (like FOX News) it's obviously suspect.
Since it didn't derive from any US government sources, it's obviously highly likely to be false.
Since President Trump has said that He has defeated ISIS, the only rational conclusion is that the article is a total lie.
Right?
‘We have lulled ourselves into a false sense of security about IS’
