It doesn't matter to me where the truth comes from.

I read a lot of pro left & pro right websites, blogs, and online newspapers.

The truth a apolitical.

Re: ‘We’ve had ENOUGH Merkel’ Rest of Europe gangs up on Germany over crippling EU au

ANGELA Merkel cut an increasingly isolated figure in Europe tonight as the rest of the continent ganged up on Germany over its imposition of crippling austerity.

The "Crippling Austerity" came about how? You don't know, do you?

Before 2010, the EU was borrowing willy-nilly and paying its debt because the economy was (if not growing) not all that bad. The Great Recession, imported from Uncle Sam, changed everything. When the economy busts, so does work. So, the politicians in major countries - mostly on the soft southern underbelly, kept on borrowing at ever higher interest rates. When push came to shove, they all turned to the EU.

And guess who was the Only Country without a Debt Overhang? Right! Germany! Which means what?

It means that for the European Central Bank to buy back "hollow loans" (in euros) from the national central banks, thus relieving them of their maintenance, it had to go to Germany to get the money to do so. Germany was the country that had insisted, in the Maastricht Treaty that created the Euro, that a county must never maintain a national debt more than 3% of GDP. Not one European country followed the rule, except Germany.

So, second time around, and the Germans have said, "Well, you're not going to skin us again!" - which would have been not only politically incorrect but had she done so, Merkel would have lost her job in the next elections.

Which is why Europe is condemned to a slow crawl-out from its recession. Such that not just the politicians, but people understand that 3% of GDP as debt IS THE LIMIT.

That's a hard lesson to learn - particularly in the soft southern EU underbelly but also nowadays in the Eastern Europe countries - that thinks governments are there to print money.

The Migrant Problem on top simply worsens the situation because countries would rather not pay the cost of housing them within the limited budgets that they have - and, for the moment, do not have jobs for even their own people. But, go tell that to a young migrant (especially those from Africa) who thinks he "deserves" the good life in Europe.

So, the EU pays Turkey hundreds of millions of euros to take care of them - for better or for worse ...

Be
Some problems with this assessment.

1) The EU at the time of the Uncle Sam recession, could not borrow. It was each member country, as it had been for centuries.
2) Not everyone is equal. Spain for example had surpluses when the crisis hit, where as Italy historically has had deficits and high debt.
3) Because of how fast and hard the credit crunch hit, the tax income collapsed. This meant that countries had a choice.. massive cuts that would hurt the economy even more, or borrow to soften the blow.

And guess who was the Only Country without a Debt Overhang? Right! Germany! Which means what?

Horse****. Germany had 68% debt to GDP when crisis struck in 2006... higher than France and over double that of Spain.

Wrong.

1) The 3% is deficit.. not debt. Debt limit is 60% of GDP.. something that few countries are within today.. but ironically a few were before the crisis. The 3% deficit limit is also one that Germany has pissed on for a long time, so..

2) The ECB "prints money" and buys bonds from specific countries only. This artificially keeps their bonds lower. Of course one could argue that this means that there is not enough drive to cut the deficit in those countries... but considering the cuts done in those countries, that argument falls pretty flat.
So, second time around, and the Germans have said, "Well, you're not going to skin us again!" - which would have been not only politically incorrect but had she done so, Merkel would have lost her job in the next elections.

The Germans always have been like that... ever since the hyper-inflation days. It is nothing new.
Which is why Europe is condemned to a slow crawl-out from its recession. Such that not just the politicians, but people understand that 3% of GDP as debt IS THE LIMIT.

"Europe" is 30+ countries and each country has it specific issue when it comes to the "recession". France has labour laws, Spain also labour laws plus at the moment political instability. Italy has also political instability, but then again it has always had that problem. Add to that lack of competition and ingrown structural problems and you have Italy. The list of problems are unique to each country and can only be fixed by said countries... not "Europe" or the EU.

That's a hard lesson to learn - particularly in the soft southern EU underbelly but also nowadays in the Eastern Europe countries - that thinks governments are there to print money.

Err that is what the US and UK have been doing for almost a decade... why you not complaining over that?

The Migrant Problem on top simply worsens the situation because countries would rather not pay the cost of housing them within the limited budgets that they have - and, for the moment, do not have jobs for even their own people. But, go tell that to a young migrant (especially those from Africa) who thinks he "deserves" the good life in Europe.

The migrant problem is not a problem but an excuse...
So, the EU pays Turkey hundreds of millions of euros to take care of them - for better or for worse ...

What was the alternative?

Re: ‘We’ve had ENOUGH Merkel’ Rest of Europe gangs up on Germany over crippling EU au

SIMPLE SERPENTS

What was the alternative?

Europe did not have much alternative, and still doesn't given that the Debt Overhang is still high. By that I mean that future tax-revenues from member-states are destined to simply pay the debt.

You seem to think that the ECB is independent, that is, it can borrow whenever it wants. That is not the case. Draghi is on a very short leash, that leash being held by Schauble.

The ECB can only borrow after having made petition to a regulatory body (constituted of EU countries) and with permission of its most important member (in terms of contributing funds), Germany. The "financial reserves" of the EU belong, ipso facto, to Germany. Till now, it has approved the ECB program of alleviating national Central Banks of Bad-Debt - but that need not last forever.

Without Quantitative Easing, the countries cannot borrow to spend to stimulate the economy. The EU is employing the very same mechanism as the US because ... that is the only mechanism left in its bag-of-tricks.

Will it work? Why not, due to two factors:
*The US is in full-recovery having brought it unemployment rate down to below 5%. And,
*The EU market-economy consists of a bit less than 510 million souls, 60% larger than the US (at 320 million). There is strength in numbers in any market-economy, and the only problem with the EU is its politicians. (Aside from the asinine Brexit vote.)

Meaning, it will take a bit longer than the US, but the trend-line is up and not down.

Moreover, the EU really needs a president since it already has a parliament in Strasbourg. (Or a PM, both formulas have their good and bad points).

It should dump the Berlaymont junket (of overpaid and under-taxed) Civil Servants (Simple Serpents), and is wholly UNELECTED. Which has existed far, far beyond its Expiration Date ...

How naive do you have to be to without question accept millions of unvetted refugees into your Country ??

By example Nations like Germany and France tried to show the world just how tolerant and open minded they were and never bothered to think about the obvious consequences of their idiotic Liberal multicultural agenda.

Or the obvious consequences of importing in millions of young men who hail from a islamic, misogynistic and rather " rapey " culture

Now there are attacks every week and people like you are going out of your way to defend intolerance, violence and misogyny

Europe did not have much alternative, and still doesn't given that the Debt Overhang is still high. By that I mean that future tax-revenues from member-states are destined to simply pay the debt.

The "debt overhang" is not a problem. It amazes me how people forget history... Debt loads were higher and lower depending on the country and it turned out just fine. Yes there are exceptions but we are not talking about Greece. German debt is over 70% of GDP.. or have you overlooked that?

You seem to think that the ECB is independent, that is, it can borrow whenever it wants. That is not the case. Draghi is on a very short leash, that leash being held by Schauble.

And now you are in conspiracy theory territory. The ECB has a mandate, set down by the Eurozone countries. The only influence Schauble has, is when they change the mandate or not. The ECB is as independent as any other major national bank.

The ECB does not need to borrow...it can just print.

Without Quantitative Easing, the countries cannot borrow to spend to stimulate the economy. The EU is employing the very same mechanism as the US because ... that is the only mechanism left in its bag-of-tricks.

It is employing it, because it should have done it long ago. Who blocked it? The Germans, because the traditional economic take, is that if you print money, then you get inflation. That is not true any more as we have seen.

Will it work? Why not, due to two factors:
*The US is in full-recovery having brought it unemployment rate down to below 5%. And,

US unemployment numbers are questionable and always have been, but because it is the US, then no one dares question them. This is how it has always been. Real unemployment in the US is more like 10+%....

*The EU market-economy consists of a bit less than 510 million souls, 60% larger than the US (at 320 million). There is strength in numbers in any market-economy, and the only problem with the EU is its politicians. (Aside from the asinine Brexit vote.)

I dont disagree... but blaming the Germans as you are, and Merkel specifically is a bad idea. The problem "children" have been the French, Italians and British. The French refuse to reform their labour market and hence keeps their economy in the ****ter, the British refuse to reform the banking industry meaning they are slaves to big banking and the Italians refuse to open up their markets even though it is mandated... Blaming the Germans for having an open and fluid economy.. is just ignorance.

Meaning, it will take a bit longer than the US, but the trend-line is up and not down.

They are different economies. Americans spend like there is no tomorrow, and have low savings. Europe is different for the most part. Germans, Italians, Spanish, Danish, all would rather save up than spend. The British and Irish are credit card whores much like their American cousins. For example, people in Italy and some what Spain would rather use cash than CC.. where as in Denmark we are turning more and more American with a cashless society.

Moreover, the EU really needs a president since it already has a parliament in Strasbourg. (Or a PM, both formulas have their good and bad points).

Hell no. Worst idea ever.. the EU should not become a nation under the current conditions.

It should dump the Berlaymont junket (of overpaid and under-taxed) Civil Servants (Simple Serpents), and is wholly UNELECTED. Which has existed far, far beyond its Expiration Date ...

Then who should run the joint? Those "overpaid" civil servants is what hold the EU and its institutions together on a daily basis. That would be like saying all civil servants in France are fired... then who will police the streets and run the courts?

Europeans

How naive do you have to be to without question accept millions of unvetted refugees into your Country ??

And you have the US, where getting refugee status for a Syrian takes 2+ years... 2+ years where people die of starvation and the elements... Maybe we should send them all to the cause of the crisis in the first place... the good old US of A..

By example Nations like Germany and France tried to show the world just how tolerant and open minded they were and never bothered to think about the obvious consequences of their idiotic Liberal multicultural agenda.

You do know your own country is a multicutural country right? And does that mean you are intolerant and close minded? Are you pro racism, anti-semitism and so on?

Or the obvious consequences of importing in millions of young men who hail from a islamic, misogynistic and rather " rapey " culture

Yes, we add to our already misogynistic and rapey culture... how about we deal with the problem in our own society first, instead of blaming it all on the outsiders? There was just a case in Denmark, where a 71 year old woman was held prisoner by a 52 year old she had met on a dating site... he was white and christian... funny how you have not heard about that in the media eh?

Now there are attacks every week and people like you are going out of your way to defend intolerance, violence and misogyny

And there are daily attacks in the US.... 91 people are going to die to gun violence alone today. You were saying?

Well I DO hope you realize that you can become like the sources you favour.

So if those sources are crap then that doesn't bode well for you.

You also DO realize (I hope) that so far there's merely been a conference set by invitation of the Greeks, the final outcome unknown until after the conference is held beginning of September.

The way the mentioned rag would have us believe, everything's already been crapped and buried.
