Tulsi Gabbard, the first Hindu-American elected to Congress, has fired back at critics who accuse the presidential hopeful of being a “Hindu nationalist,” describing the claim as slander that fuels religious bigotry in politics.

The four-term Democratic congresswoman has been in the media’s crosshairs since announcing her presidential bid earlier this month, with political pundits taking issue with her vocal anti-war positions, as well as her decision to meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She’s also been accused of being associated with, and accepting money from, Hindu nationalist groups such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Religious bigotry in this country? I'm shocked. Chap political tool, like the attacks on JFK for being a Catholic.

I fell asleep in the recliner last night and woke to early morning religious programming explaining why it was inappropriate to elect a Muslim politician -- because they would always put the Koran ahead of the Constitution -- even if they didn't admit it. BUT it was okay to be a Christian politician even one who admitted putting the Bible ahead of the Constitution.

Their rationale was that the Constitution was founded on Biblical principles so even if you put the Bible ahead of the Constitution, it is okay because there is no conflict between the two.

Rationalization is a powerful tool in the hands of a Bible-thumping zealot. IOW, the end justifies the means. I thought that mind set rested only with the Communists & Nazis but it is apparently alive & well in today's America.

I fall asleep during the evening news in my Eames chair. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eames_Lounge_Chair. Best piece of furniture I ever bought.
