Increased influence of Christ Church, whose leader wants to create US ‘theocracy’, comes as social conservatives aim to gain traction

A Guardian investigation has revealed that a controversial church whose leader has openly expressed the ambition of creating a “theocracy” in America has accumulated significant influence in the city of Moscow, Idaho.

Christ Church has a stated goal to “make Moscow a Christian town” and public records, interviews, and open source materials online show how its leadership has extended its power and activities in the town.

I have news for these loonies: there is no way to prove (to me) that the Christian or any other god exists. When you die you stop existing.

Very tyrannical / unfaithful / poorly educated Christian leader then, since God gave us all free will to choose to follow Him or not. To use 'man's law' to force Christianity on everyone in a theocracy is to deny God's Will, it's an usurpation of His Authority.

God wants us all to come to Him of our own free will. Using force of law to make people do so is human arrogance and egregious sin.

Reminds me of that group Christian Exodus back in 2005 or so, who wanted to relocate true believers to South Carolina and withdraw from the Union.

More fake news.

We're talking about a population of ~2,000 (fewer than 10%) of Moscow, by a preacher with absolutely no political power. This is just another very obvious leftist attack on Christianity, even an atheist like me can spot it, it is that obvious. If the Guardian isn't attacking Christians, then they are joining the BBC with their antisemitic attacks against Israel.

The article is pretty clear how the group (Christ Church) has expanded its influence in Moscow:

Christ Church has a stated goal to “make Moscow a Christian town” and public records, interviews, and open source materials online show how its leadership has extended its power and activities in the town.

Church figures have browbeaten elected officials over Covid restrictions, built powerful institutions in parallel to secular government, harassed perceived opponents, and accumulated land and businesses in pursuit of a long-term goal of transforming America into a nation ruled according to its own, ultra-conservative moral precepts.

While the church’s previous controversies have centered on its founder and pastor, Douglas Wilson, a new generation of male church leaders – including Wilson’s son – have found ways to expand the church’s reach in Moscow and beyond, even gaining footholds in mainstream popular culture in the broader US.

Is it small? Yes. Does it represent a growing trend? We'll see. Is it an attack on Christianity in general? Good grief no.

Not surprise, the right are jealous of the Taliban. They watch HandMaid's Tale and think Gilead are the good guys. They are exactly the same

If they want to buy land and develop their own closed community like the Amish, have at it. But we're not in 1690 anymore, folks.

Yep. Leave the secular government out of it.

It is entirely fake news. Religious institutions in California were even more vocal after Gov. Newsom intentionally violated their First Amendment right to Free Exercise. So much so that they brought their case to the Supreme Court on several occasions.

What did this church do? Bitch about unconstitutional restrictions being imposed in Moscow, ID. Big deal. This article is an intentional attack on Christians in Moscow by a newspaper that is noted for attacking Christians and Jews.

The facts are obvious, you simply refuse to acknowledge them like a good leftist.
