Many have said in the forums that one of the primary reasons for their support of Trump and his policies has been his 'restoration' of international respect for the United States after the eight years of Obama's destruction. As with many things Trumpies believe, this belief about an increased respect for America has little, if any, connection with the real world.

‘I Feel Sorry for Americans’: A Baffled World Watches the U.S.
From Myanmar to Canada, people are asking: How did a superpower allow itself to be felled by a virus? And why won’t the president commit to a peaceful transition of power?

Myanmar is a poor country struggling with open ethnic warfare and a coronavirus outbreak that could overload its broken hospitals. That hasn’t stopped its politicians from commiserating with a country they think has lost its way.

“I feel sorry for Americans,” said U Myint Oo, a member of parliament in Myanmar. “But we can’t help the U.S. because we are a very small country.”

The same sentiment prevails in Canada, one of the most developed countries. Two out of three Canadians live within about 60 miles of the American border.

“Personally, it’s like watching the decline of the Roman Empire,” said Mike Bradley, the mayor of Sarnia, an industrial city on the border with Michigan, where locals used to venture for lunch.

Amid the pandemic and in the run-up to the presidential election, much of the world is watching the United States with a mix of shock, chagrin and, most of all, bafflement.

Yeah, I mean Trump created a situation where NATO allies aren't sure US would actually come to their aid should they need it. NATO allies. Which are the most important US led alliance and probably the #1 tool of US military influence.

This wasn’t about allies or foreign policy, it’s about a society so divided and stripped of its traditions for mindless consumerism-it looks bad, and when it’s this bad- people are going to look up to someone like trump

International opinion about America during the Trump years continues to decline.

Majorities have an unfavorable opinion of the U.S. in nearly every country surveyed

Pew Research Center surveys have found mixed or relatively negative views of the U.S. in Canada and Western Europe since 2017 and the beginning of the Trump administration. In the current survey, views of the U.S. have deteriorated further, with a median of only 34% across the 13 countries surveyed expressing a positive view.

The current survey shows a substantial dip in ratings of the U.S. since 2019. Japan saw the largest drop, with only 41% expressing a positive view in 2020, compared with 68% in 2019. Every other country surveyed in both years saw a decrease of between 12 and 18 percentage points since the previous year.

Don't feel sorry for us, we are able to take the lumps and pick up the pieces....it will take time, but if we rid ourselves of Trump we can then purge the rest of the scourge on the Republican party and fix the party to what it once was.

I am surprised Johnson did so well.
