  • Thanks for the like and the kind reply to my post in the social class thread. Thanks agian and have happy Thanksgiving weekend.
I thought your thread on tax reform in the Loft was interesting and tried to reply, but I can't seem to get permission to do so.

What a shame -- you obviously worked hard on it.
I'm sorry. I accidentally deleted your response message. If you can access it and reapply it, that would be appreciated. I didn't mean delete your comments from the public discussion.

It's been very hot. I went to a wine tasting last night. Met some of the people you met. How's Japan?
Quoting William F. Buckley Jr. I was first introduced to him after reading books by Noam Chomsky and then youtubing him many, many years later a long time ago.

I came across this, and W. B. Jr. comes across horribly. His debating tactic was based in deception rather than fact - ideology and not reality (which is not to say he didn't get some things right).

I don't mean to be confrontational or to start a fight. I am curious about your views and why you respect W. B. Jr.'s quote(s).
This topic brings out some very strange view points, especially elevating those the hold gov't union employment positions into some "super citizen" status. I know that some see the military in this light, as they are risking much in their public service, but to extend this "reverence" to a gov't teacher, file clerk or bus driver is a bit odd to me.
Thank you, I used to "reside" on the Fox news site, but hated the DISCUS rules and discovered this place. I like the diversity of opinion here and there are far fewer "trolls" to deal with. I try to offer constructive criticism and fact based argument but I ocassionally "lose it" and simply rant. ;-)
Ah, well, in that context, he definitely was king. :) George F. Will probably comes close, but he his strength, to me anyway, is sentence structure and references. It is fun! I've been hooked on developing a vocabulary since 8th grade. :)

Yes, you have much more important things to study at the moment.
I love language, and wish I was better at its use. Long words are part of that. :) I don't know that he was king, but I would certainly agree he was king of the political discussion format. He is probably my favorite conservative and I still mourn his passing. :(
Hahahaha! I actually know what that word means without looking it up. It was said of William F. Buckley. :D

EDIT: Oops, just saw the thread you posted. I didn't realize you were so on top of it.
Outstanding work in the women and government thread. Excellent use of the socratic method. You took thunder by the hand and led him to a place he didn't want to be. Fantastic!
It is not corney at all. IMO, we Americans forget or active duty and vets these days in ways that would make any WW II era American ashamed of us.
