I am against the death penalty
I am against non-defensive wars.
I am pro-reasonable gun regulations
I am an atheist and I believe in the separation of church and state as enunciated by Thomas Jefferson in the Virginia Statute on Religious Freedom
I am pro freedom of speech and anti-censorship of ideas.
I am pro freethinking.
I am in favor of nuclear power to generate electricity
I am for deemphasizing prison as punishment for nonviolent crimes
I am pro legalization of marijuana for medical and recreational use.
I am for decriminalization of hard drugs, with state supported treatment for those in need of treatment.
I am prochoice on abortion, up to a point (generally 20 weeks give or take, also with allowances for rape/incest and serious risk to the mother).
I do not believe intelligence agencies or "former intelligence officials" without proof.
I do not think politicians were honorable before Trump got here.
I am a fan of Noam Chomsky, Christopher Hitchens (RIP), Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan (RIP), Isaac Asimov (RIP), Michael Shermer, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Milton Friedman (RIP), John Stuart Mill (RIP), and their books are must-reads, IMO.
My favorite founding fathers are Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine. Everyone should read Common Sense, The Age of Reason, The Crisis, and The Rights of Man.
I am a tolerant person. I mind my own business, and I think people should generally do the same. I am live-and-let-live in general. I value a good liberal arts education, as well as STEM education, and I think parents should foster a love of learning in their children.
I enjoy reading, running, swimming, spending time with my family.
On this message board, I particularly like discussions and debates with people I disagree with, except the ones that just namecall and those who refuse to address the substance of issues. If someone addresses the substance of an issue, I am willing to learn from them, even if I ultimately do not agree with them.
It is a true and disappearing value that people should be able to entertain an idea without accepting it.
On this website, apparently some people think I'm an extremist.
