    Pardon me 4 asking?

Atheism proper seems to meet two of the definitions for religion: 3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader. 4. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. I'd like to stress the belief angle because the phrase "I...

17 Dead because of liberal media bias

Why doesn't anyone complain if a Blog blows the gun and publishes too quickly? This isn't a conservative or liberal issue. I think this is the way journalism as a whole is going to be operating nowadays since it's so easy to be scooped.

    Pardon me 4 asking?

Well, to say the full name would be direspectful. Sort of taking the lord's name in vain. I have similar feelings about icons like crosses and such. It just feels off. Probably just a conceit of some sort, considering I'm a pantheist at best when it comes to divine questions.

    Independents vote here!

I voted no (as a self professed libertarian), but for a more conservative reason. I believed it would be a costly, lengthy occupation, and it would bring out the worst in many of us.

Should the Media be Restricted During Wartime?

http://voanews.com/english/2005-05-12-voa69.cfm I'm not sure which way to take this. My original desire was to discuss why it's imporatnt for the media to put out stories even when they can be construed as "against the government." However, the more fruitful and interesting line of inquiry...

Not all Musulims are TERRORIEST BUT ???

Re: Not all Musulims are TERRORIEST BUT ? Wow, you guys pull out all the guns on this site, montalban. I think I'm going to like it here. It will take me a bit to respond to the breadth of your posts, but hopefully something comes out.

Should the Media be Restricted During Wartime?

I shouldn't have implied that military personnel are easily swayed. I would hope the MP's ethics and standards were every bit as pristine as ours werein my field. I also realise that taking the word of a couple of detainees over army personnel is a questionable practice at best. However Bad...

Not all Musulims are TERRORIEST BUT ???

Re: Not all Musulims are TERRORIEST BUT ? Being an engineer, I get to work around a lot of muslims, and so far they seem to have the traditional american macho talk about the wife at home, but in their actions they're about as whipped as the rest of us.

    Why

I blame the thinkers. Hear me out. Before concepts such as G_d, city, state, etc... people just went around beating each other up for the sheer joy of it (that old mamlian play instinct in action), or over some need or concern). People didn't neccessarily hate each other, they just went and...

Should the Media be Restricted During Wartime?

I too, don't disagree with a level of restriction during wartime, especially where operational issues are concerned, squawker. There is a definite overiding interest there. However, issues like torture and extremes of treatment are a public good issue. Those people in afganistan were going to...

    industrialization

I agree, NY. You really don't have much if you don't have an industrial base (well, it is possible to have a service based economy. The Economist talks about India as a service based country in the most recent issue as an example). I never considered myself an environmentalist until I read...

    Affirmative Action....come On!

I'm not a fan of quotas, but to elucidate on your complaint, bushrules, if you owned your own buisiness you wouldn't be required to hire any one on a quota basis. What you might have to do is first of all not show any bias in hiring (so if the mexican is more skilled, you better have some...

    industrialization

Why not prioritize an aspect of environmental protection such as human health (clean drinking water, sewage, clean air) along with industrializtion? The build up in infrasructure should be useful for industry in formation and to encourage people to come into cities, thereby leaving swaths of...

Should the Media be Restricted During Wartime?

I don't see how this is a bad portrayl, squawker. The report is to the point without any real editorializing. The bad part is that some interrogator did something that he should have known was going to arouse passions if the people involved was ever set free. I'm not arguing human rights ot...

    Pardon me 4 asking?

By secularism do you mean atheism? Then I agree. But if it means "concerned about the material, not concerning spiritual or religious," then I can't see how a government could run. However, I don't see any proatheistic governmental actions. Many that are material in nature and avoiding of the...
